Women's box lacrosse growing on the Lower Mainland
I read this article in the New Westminster Record today about the growth of women's box lacrosse. This is great news. We have hundreds of young girls in the area who aren't that into girls' field lacrosse because it's not the rough and tumble game that they're used to.I first heard of this league a year or two ago, but the New Westminster team is a new addition, as far as I know.
Two years ago, I played some drop-in women's box lacrosse at the local rink (the Mamabellies). It was essentially no-contact and the only protective equipment we wore were helmets and gloves. It was a heck of a workout. I kept meaning to buy myself a helmet and continue, but my husband thought I should just use my daughter's helmet. Honestly, there's not much worse than wearing somebody else's smelly helmet. I shudder just thinking about it.
