Adanacs still in the running for the 2007 Mann Cup

I can't believe they're still in the series, but they are. Yes, the Coquitlam Adanacs managed to eke out a win over the Peterborough Lakers tonight at Coquitlam Centre. Final Score: 11-10. Check out Pointstreak for more details.

Game 6 in the seven-game series is Friday night. The Lakers currently lead the Adanacs three games to two.

A little bit of history

I was in the library today reviewing some newspapers from 1906. I wasn't looking for lacrosse stories in particular, but a few jumped out at me. Below is an excerpt from the August 6 issue of The Daily News (published in New Westminster). The story is called, Beat Vancouver by Six to Four: New Westmtnstes [sic] Practically Cinch the Senior Lacrosse Championship for 1906--Nothing But Victory All Through the Season--Hard Work Well Done. (What a long title!)

"The mouthpiece of the Vancouver team, the sporting editor of the News-Advertiser, has announced since Saturday's game that they are sore on the decision given on the Maple Leaf protest and that they are seriously thinking of retiring from the association. This blithe sporting editor intimates that he would regard such a turn of affairs as sad, but quite justifiable. As if he had been asleep for a couple of months, he now rises to remark that the lacrosse season is just becoming interesting and that it would be nothing short of a calamity if the Vancouvers were to withdraw at this stage. All will agree that it would be too bad to see the Vancouvers drop out of the association, but will someone kindly explain how that could seriously affect the interest for the rest of the season? It could only affect the interest of people who are concerned about the questions of which Vancouver team shall take second place. The main interest of the season, that which has to do with the championship, was lost last Saturday."

It's interesting that in 1906, Vancouver had two lacrosse teams. Now they don't even have one (although there is talk about bringing the Ravens back into the NLL).
